Aluminium 2021 fair cancelled, replaced by a congress

Reed Exhibitions (RX) has cancelled the Aluminium 2021 trade fair and is planning a congress instead – the Aluminium Business Summit.

In the context of the current Corona situation and with the current travel restrictions impacting numerous exhibitors, sponsors and speakers, RX made the difficult but appropriate decision (1) to cancel Aluminium 2021, (2) to postpone it to autumn next year and (3) to replace this year’s event by a congress – the Aluminium Business Summit, which will take place in Düsseldorf from 28 to 29 September.

It should have been the long-awaited restart event for the aluminium industry. But due to the after-effects of the Corona pandemic, the Aluminium 2021 trade fair in Düsseldorf cannot take place as planned from 28 to 30 September 2021. Instead, organizer RX and the German aluminium association GDA, together with the CRU Group, are planning a two-day congress format. On 28 and 29 September the Aluminium Business Summit will bring experts together live and digitally for an exchange of ideas.

Cancelled trade fair back on track in 2022 – this year replaced by the Aluminium Business Summit congress

“Despite numerous relaxations, many companies of the global aluminium industry still feel uncertainties and are affected by travel restrictions. An international event like Aluminium 2021 is not feasible under these circumstances. The expectations that our exhibitors, visitors, partners and we have of a world-leading trade fair for this sector cannot be met this year under these conditions,” says Barbara Leithner, COO of the organizer RX. “Together with our partners and the industry, we have therefore decided to launch the fair again in autumn 2022.”

Together with the GDA and CRU Group, organizer RX will bring the industry together for the Aluminium Business Summit from 28 to 29 September; to discuss the most important topics of the industry in Düsseldorf. “With the Summit, we are creating a framework for the industry and the participants to meet in person and, with the top-class lecture programme, and in so doing we are continuing to pursue the path started with the Aluminium 2021 Digital Talk,” says Leithner.

A comprehensive hygiene concept will ensure that participants can move around and exchange ideas safely on site, RX stresses. However, the number of participants will be limited. The content of the summit will also be made available online.

The congress will discuss most important topics of the industry

“The aim of the Aluminium 2021 Business Summit is to accompany our industry, to constructively tackle the challenges of new mobility, digitalization, sustainability and international market development and to shape the industry’s transformation,” says Marius Baader, AD’s managing director. The programme is being produced in cooperation with the CRU Group, and the European Aluminium will also be involved in the event.

The next edition of the world trade fair Aluminium 2021 will take place as planned from 27 to 29 September 2022.
