Alvance Aluminium Dunkerque has achieved ASI Performance Standard certification for its smelting and casthouse operation in Dunkerque, France.
Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that the Alvance Aluminium Dunkerque facility has been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard for responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium. The plant produces aluminium by electrolysis of alumina in the form of rolling slabs and ingots.
Alvance Aluminium Dunkerque achieves ASI Performance Standard
It is the largest primary aluminium smelter in Europe and specialises in the manufacture of aluminium slabs and ingots, which are destined for use across a range of value-added applications in the transport, automotive, packaging, building and construction industries. The site produces over 284,000 tonnes of aluminium per year and employs almost 600 staff.
ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria
The ASI Certification program was developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process and is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. It sets out 59 criteria under the three sustainability pillars of Governance, Environment and Social, which address key issues such as biodiversity, Indigenous Peoples rights, and greenhouse gas emissions. The independent, third-party audit of the ALVANCE Aluminium Dunkerque facilities was carried out by Bureau Veritas Certification.
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI said, “We warmly congratulate Alvance Aluminium Dunkerque on its ASI Performance Standard certification. By certifying these operations, the company is demonstrating that they are not only an important industry player in terms of production volume, but also in terms of their commitment to sustainable production of aluminium. We will follow with great interest the progress on their goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.”
